Mirror Mirror

I think it was Italo Calvino who wrote that to love someone was to look into a mirror and see a better reflection of yourself. I may have read that many years ago but I can't say I've ever really understood it until now. The love I'd experienced was never a positive reflection of myself nor anything I should ever aspire to. At best, they were murky reflections filled with self-doubt and mistrust with fleeting moments of comfort and peace. While I've reached this point after numerous experiences and realizations, there's a lot to be said about the person you're looking into and reflecting yourself onto. And when that person grows more amazing by the day, and your life more prolific because of it, well that's a mirror I'll aspire to look into for years to come.
